Welcome all! As this is my first blog, I will try to "fit in". So let me begin with a story I heard on the local news, and now can't find a single record of since.
There is a small community in Oregon, that at one time, was a thriving, propserous community. It was at one time a logging community. As the way of the logger has deteriated, so has this small town. Or so we thought until recently. Some time ago, it was approached that this area was a prime area for one of President Obama's pet projects. A "Wind Farm" or clean energy. Next generation energy. Ok, so the area is windy, and I suppose, there is some profitability to it after the recovery of the initial investments. Maybe in nine or ten years!
Anyway, all was looking up for this deprived community. Permits were approved, funding was made available, and so on. (Not sure if the funding was from the recent pork bill or not). Regardless, all was looking good. People were looking forward to jobs, a better life.
Until the other shoe dropped. Apparently, the environmentalists, opposed the project as it would require the installation of high voltage lines to get the electricity generated by the "wind farm" to the electrical grid. This part of the project would endanger certain birds and wildlife. So the last I heard, the initiative that Obama wishes to move to clean energy, is being prevented by the environmentalists that also want clean energy, but don't walk on the grass!
Anyway, as I stated, the story aired on a local NBC News program. I have searched their story archive on the web, as well as attempted to Google anything about the story. It has for some reason disappeared. But you know what! I bet the people in the deprived town in central Oregon haven't disappeared. An I bet their dreams of a thriving community rebuilt have disappeared.
Common sense has disappeared!
If anyone knows of the specifics of this news story and would like to add detail or corrections, please do so. I believe this sort of information needs to be known.
